Learn about the Despensa Project and what it is
We are pleased to announce that this year “El Joe Festival” will be partnering with the Despensa Project. The Despensa Project formed 2020, in response to the pandemic which effected so many people because they were out of work and starving in their ranchos and villages. The Project mainly works with, but not limited to, severally impoverished people, who are battling starvation, and grave illness. The pandemic put many out of work, and those out of work were relied upon by their families to provide food. Thus, starvation was a profound residual effect of the pandemic.
Currently the Project helps a young Mexican woman feed 13 children from one of the poorest villages in the campo. Before the Project’s involvement, these children wouldn’t know where their next meal would come from. Now with the help from the Despensa Project, she can take them all in and feed them twice a day. The difference in this little village has been profound.
Additionally, the Project routinely takes groceries to another village where 17 people are living, including 12 children. They assist with taking toys and games and books to children who have absolutely nothing. Also, the Project collects donated items and distributes these to the villages. Furniture and TVs have been delivered to handicap people who had nowhere to sit but the dirt floor of their hut. Blankets, coats, shoes, clothing are common items taken to those who need them.
The Project, through assistance of the community and St. Paul’s Church of San Miguel de Allende has assisted with building tin roofs for their shelters and have assisted with handing out many bags of cement so that they can have actual non dirt floors. Over 40 families have been supplied with EcoStoves, allowing them to cook hot meals, without the danger of open pit fires of their small children.
The Project has fed an entire village for two years now, however, they have run into financial constraints. Therefore, our family and friends, through “El Joe Festival” and St. Paul’s Church of San Miguel de Allende have decided to embark on this mission and help the Despensa Project and fight off starvation in the ranchos throughout San Miguel de Allende.
Let's help Despensa fight the fight. For further information on how to donate, contact us.
